Home / All Bamwor Indexes / IBEE — Bamwor Economic Stability Index What this index measures The Economic Stability Index produces a composite score (0–100) reflecting how stable and prosperous a country’s economy is. It combines four key macroeconomic indicators: GDP per capita (wealth), inflation rate (price stability), unemployment rate (labor market health), and public debt as a percentage of GDP (fiscal sustainability). Countries with high GDP per capita, low inflation, low unemployment, and manageable debt score highest.
Methodology Each variable is log-transformed (log₁₀). GDP per capita is used directly (higher = better). Inflation, unemployment, and public debt are inverted (lower = better) before normalization. Each component is min-max normalized to 0–25. The four components are summed for a final score of 0–100.
Formula IBEE = norm(log(gdp_pc), 0–25) + norm(log(max_inf − inflation), 0–25) + norm(log(max_unemp − unemployment), 0–25) + norm(log(max_debt − public_debt), 0–25)Variables used GDP per capita in USD (Bamwor database) Inflation rate % (Bamwor database) Unemployment rate % (Bamwor database) Public debt as % of GDP (Bamwor database) How to interpret Score 80–100: Highly stable, wealthy economy with low inflation, low unemployment, and manageable debt. Score 50–80: Moderately stable. Score 20–50: Significant economic challenges. Score 0–20: Severe instability.
Limitations Equal weighting of four components is a simplification. Some economies may have high GDP per capita but structural vulnerabilities not captured by these metrics. Data availability varies by country. Inflation and debt figures may lag behind current conditions.
