Key global statistics and trends from the Bamwor World Encyclopedia
This is the first edition of the Bamwor World Data Brief, a monthly snapshot of key global indicators. We track population, economic output, quality of life, and other metrics across 190+ countries using data from the CIA World Factbook.
1
India and China neck-and-neck in population
China leads with 1.416 billion people, but India is just 7 million behind at 1.409 billion. The gap continues to narrow — India is projected to surpass China within 2026. Together, these two nations account for over 35% of the world's population.
The top 5 countries for life expectancy are all small nations or territories: Monaco (89.5), Singapore (86.7), Japan (85.5), Macau (85.2), and San Marino (84.2). Large countries with notably high life expectancy include Japan, Australia (83.5), and Switzerland (83.4).
The U.S. economy is 7x larger than India's by GDP (PPP)
The three largest economies by GDP (PPP) are China ($35.3T), the United States ($29.2T), and India ($15.0T). While India has nearly the same population as China, its economic output per person is roughly one-seventh. The GDP per capita gap tells the story: Luxembourg leads at $143,743 vs India at $10,123.
Niger has the world's highest birth rate at 47.3 per 1,000
Sub-Saharan Africa dominates the top of the birth rate ranking. Niger (47.3), Chad (40.5), and Mali (40.3) lead the list. In contrast, South Korea (6.4), Hong Kong (7.4), and Taiwan (7.4) have the lowest birth rates globally, reflecting a stark demographic divide.
Russia's coastline stretches 37,653 km, followed by Indonesia (54,716 km including islands), Norway (25,148 km with fjords), and Canada (202,080 km — the longest when including all island coastlines). Geography shapes trade access: 44 countries are landlocked with zero coastline.
Internet penetration: Iceland leads at 99%, South Sudan at 7.9%
The digital divide remains massive. Northern European countries dominate internet access: Iceland (99%), Denmark (98.9%), and the UAE (98.5%) lead. Meanwhile, much of Sub-Saharan Africa and parts of South Asia remain below 30%. Global average internet penetration stands at approximately 62%.
