Nepal — Transnational Issues
Nepal, a country nestled in the Himalayas, faces several transnational challenges that impact its socio-political landscape. One of the pressing issues is human trafficking, where the nation is currently rated as Tier 2 Watch List by international standards. This indicates that the Nepalese government has not demonstrated significant improvements in curbing trafficking activities compared to previous years. In addition, Nepal grapples with internal displacement, hosting approximately 18,671 internally displaced persons (IDPs) as of 2024. Refugee dynamics also play a crucial role, with 19,874 individuals seeking refuge in the country, reflecting ongoing regional instabilities. Statelessness remains a concern, affecting 467 people who lack citizenship documentation. Addressing these challenges requires comprehensive policy intervention and international cooperation to ensure stability and human rights protection in Nepal.
